Opioid analgesic combination, controlled substance · ATC N02AJ22
Hydrocodone / Paracetamol combination
Norco in the US
The international (INN) name. Pharmacists everywhere recognize it, even when the local brand differs.
Schedule II controlled substance. Pack only what you need for the trip and keep it in the original labeled bottle. Flying within the US needs no paperwork. Arriving from abroad, declare it at customs and carry a prescription or doctor’s note in English. Vicodin is no longer marketed. Hydrocodone on its own is sold only as extended-release (Hysingla ER and its generics).
Not licensed in the UK. It isn’t on the NHS medicine list. British doctors prescribe codeine, tramadol or oxycodone when an opioid is needed.
Falls under the BtMG (German Narcotics Act, Annex III) as a controlled narcotic; expect substitution with dihydrocodeine or another opioid instead.
Hydrocodone is not sold in France or in most of Europe, so there is no direct Norco equivalent. Other codeine with paracetamol brands: Codoliprane, Klipal Codéine. Tramadol with paracetamol is sold as Ixprim or Zaldiar. France has no combined oxycodone and paracetamol product, so oxycodone (Oxynorm) is sold only on its own.
The Doloff brand is not sold in Mexico, and no hydrocodone product is in the register file, though some pharmacies stock generics. Controlled: needs a special prescription. Counterfeit and substandard products are a known risk in Mexico. If you can, get this at home before you travel.
Not marketed in Japan. It is a narcotic under Japanese law, so bringing your own supply follows the same rule as oxycodone: written permission from a Regional Bureau of Health and Welfare before you travel, for any quantity, applied for at least 14 days ahead with a doctor’s certificate.
Hydrocodone is not marketed in Singapore. To bring your own supply you need approval from the Health Sciences Authority before you travel, and may bring at most 3 months’ supply.
No hydrocodone product is registered with INFARMED. As in France and Germany, pharmacies stock tramadol and codeine instead.
No hydrocodone product is marketed in Italy. The equivalents here combine tramadol or codeine with paracetamol.
No hydrocodone product is marketed in Spain. The equivalents here combine tramadol or codeine with paracetamol.
