Prednisone
The international (INN) name. Pharmacists everywhere recognize it, even when the local brand differs (e.g. Winpred, Cortancyl, Meticorten).
Prednisolone is used instead. The only prednisone product listed in the UK is an imported, unlicensed one (Decortin), prescription-only. Prednisolone is the standard UK equivalent; a UK doctor would prescribe that.
The Decortin brand of prednisone is no longer sold. "Decortin H" is prednisolone, a different medicine.
Prednisolone is more commonly used internationally.
Japan uses prednisolone instead: Predonine (プレドニン), prescription-only. Prednisone itself is not marketed in Japan. The liver converts prednisone to prednisolone anyway, so Japan prescribes prednisolone directly. Predonine needs a prescription, so bring your own supply.
